Monique Pean Biography

Monique Pean founded her eponymous collection, Monique Pean, in New York City in 2006. The launch of Monique Pean was a pioneering effort in creating fine jewelry made entirely of eco friendly and sustainable materials.

In 2009, Monique Pean was one of the winners of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund competition, one of the most prestigious awards in the fashion industry. As part of the award, Michael Kowalski, CEO of Tiffany, became her mentor. Additionally, Monique Pean was the recipient of the Ecco Domani 2009 Fashion Foundation award for accessory design and Oprah Winfrey named Monique one of ten women on the rise "in the May, 2010 anniversary issue of O, The Oprah Magazine.

Style icons including Michelle Obama, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, and Kerry Washington have worn Monique Pean.

Monique grew up in the Washington DC area. Prior to the debut of her fine jewelry company, she worked on Wall Street while taking design courses in New York. Monique has been a guest speaker at Harvard Business School and Parsons The New School for Design. She created the Career Advancement Program in conjunction with Yale School of Management and Management Leadership Tomorrow to provide minorities with mentorship opportunities in corporate America, and founded the Vanessa Pean Foundation in her sister's memory to provide scholarships to underprivileged students in Haiti. Monique is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a B.A. in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics.
