Biography
Grew up near a beach in Long Island
Studied at the Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn majoring
in Sculpture and Painting
Began to work in the industry by painting fabric by the
metre for a young unknown designer
This working collaboration led him to begin creating clothes
in the very fabric he painted
In 1979 he started his first collaboration for men in New York a capsule range of sportswear comprising knits, jackets, trousers and shirts sold at stores in America, such as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Macy's
In 1982 moved to London to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer and produced his first capsule collection
Developed a signature style of modern elegance with his trademark long dresses that are both sexy and beautiful
Joined Debenhams in 1992 with the BDL by Ben de Lisi collection which has become one of the largest selling ranges in the Womenswear Designers at Debenhams portfolio
Won the coveted British Glamour Designer of the Year award twice in 1994 and 1995
In 1995 began showing his collections at London Fashion Week
In 2001 began working with Countryside Properties in North West England, designing and giving apartments his stylish touch
Worked with Abacus, developing a unique range of branded bathrooms
In 2007 Ben was awarded an honorary doctorate for his contribution to fashion by the University of Northamptonshire
Added a homeware range to his collections at Debenhams in 2009 including many sought after, statement pieces that have been highly acclaimed in the press
Awarded a second honorary doctorate by the Robert Gordon University of Aberdeen
Designed interior design luxury apartments for The Grosvenor and continues to work on his own interior range for private clients in London, Budapest, Portugal and is currently working on a project in Windermere
